Balela Salad is a middle eastern chickpea salad recipe having fresh flavors, herbs and spices and makes a healthy salad, dip or pita filler! The salad has chickpeas and black beans, tossed together with diced bell peppers, cucumber, onion, garlic, parsley and mint loaded with lemon juice, some fresh herbs and olive oil.

Ingredients

Balela Salad Recipe

  • Roasted orange Bell Pepper - 1
  • roasted green bell pepper - 1
  • salt - to taste
  • black pepper - to taste
  • parsley - 1 bunch
  • mint - 1/2 bunch
  • onion - 1 medium sized
  • garbanzo beans (chole)- 1 cup
  • black beans (rajma) - 1 cup
  • lemon juice - 2 tbsp
  • olive oil - 2 tbsp

Instructions

Recipe for Roasted Bell Pepper

  • Take 1 green medium sized bell pepper and 1 orange medium sized bell pepper, apply oil to both bell peppers.
  • Roast bell peppers in air fryer or oven or burner. Remove the skin of the bell pepper. As roasted bell pepper becomes soft, the skin of bell pepper comes out easily. Remove seeds from bell pepper.
  • Chop roasted bell pepper into small pieces.

Vegetable Cutting

  • Take a small onion and chop it into small pieces.
  • Take a bunch of parsley or coriander leaves. Chop parsley leaves.
  • Take half a bunch of mint leaves. Chop mint leaves.

Assembling Balela Salad

  • In a large mixing bowl, add chopped onions, chopped parsley, chopped mint, roasted chopped green bell pepper, roasted chopped orange bell pepper.
  • Next, add boiled chick peas or garbanzo beans to the bowl.
  • Add boiled black beans or rajma to the bowl.
  • Now, let’s add spices. Add salt, black pepper powder, chaat masala or cumin powder.
  • Add lemon juice and olive oil to salad.
  • Mix the salad well.
